Tonia Gomes Obituary, Death -CUMBERLAND Thursday was the day that Antonia T. Gomes, who was 86 years old, passed away at the Grandview Center in Cumberland. She had formerly called the house on Smith Street her home. Before he passed away, she was married to the late Antonio Gomes. They had two children together. In spite of the fact that he was born in Portugal, he has been a resident of Cumberland, Rhode Island, ever since 1961.
She was employed there until the age at which she was eligible for retirement, after which she moved on to other endeavors. She is survived by her five children, Manuel Fernandes of Douglas, Massachusetts, Maria Bradshaw, Joseph Gomes, Fernanda Muggle, and Horacio Gomes, all of Lincoln, as well as by her two siblings, Jesuina Torres and Ceu Torres, both of Portugal. Her children Manuel Fernandes of Douglas, Massachusetts, Maria Bradshaw, Joseph Gomes, Fernanda Muggle, and Horacio Gomes, all of Lincoln, survive her as well It was in Portugal that she made her debut.
In addition, she is the inheritor of eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, all of whom will carry on her lineage. She was the sister of Antonio Torres, Jurmana Torres, and Rosa Torres-Fernandes, all of whom have since passed away. She was also the sister of Rosa Torres-Fernandes. The J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, which can be found in Cumberland at 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, will host a memorial service on Monday morning at nine o’clock in the morning to honor her life. The service will be held in her honor.
Our Lady of Fatima Church, which can be found on Fatima Drive in Cumberland, will be the location of the funeral service, and it will get underway at ten in the morning. The burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery immediately following the funeral services. Attendance at this event is cordially requested from family members and close friends.
