Steve Guthrie Obituary, Death – GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — According to the statements made by Sheriff Phil Sims, who was in control of the department at the time of Chief Deputy Steve Guthrie’s passing, he died away on Wednesday afternoon. Guthrie served as the chief deputy for Marshall County. “Chief Deputy Steve Guthrie with the sheriff’s office…passed away late this afternoon after suffering from medical troubles that occurred roughly two weeks ago,” reads a statement that was posted on the Facebook page of the sheriff’s office. The post states that Guthrie died as a result of his illness. About two weeks ago, Guthrie was admitted to the hospital due to the numerous health issues he was experiencing.
During this trying time, we ask that you continue to pray for Steve and his family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. An Alabama band that Jeff Cook used to manage had nothing but praise for him to say about his time on the road. Guthrie was reportedly sent to the hospital a month ago to receive treatment for pancreatitis and gallstones, as stated by comments that his wife, Tammy, made on numerous social media platforms. Guthrie’s wife is the one who brought these words to the attention of the public. On Wednesday, October 26, he experienced his first episode of cardiac arrest, but he was able to be brought back to life through the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (CPR).
When Guthrie arrived at Huntsville Hospital on October 28, he had been moved there from the location where he had been staying previously. On November 4, Tammy Guthrie wrote on her Facebook account that her husband was unresponsive and that he had sustained “serious anoxic brain damage in several spots.” After Chief Deputy Guthrie was admitted to the hospital, a number of establishments in Marshall County, including Jefferson’s and Hardee’s, placed the motto “PRAY FOR STEVE” on the signage outside of their facilities in an effort to show their support for Chief Deputy Guthrie. One of these establishments was called Jefferson’s. Additionally, several other prayer vigils were conducted all throughout the weekend for Guthrie. These vigils were held continuously throughout the course of the weekend.
