Sara Erwin Obituary, Death – Sara Breeden “Sis” Erwin, who resided in Morganton and was 92 years old at the time of her death on November 18, 2022, passed away on that day. Both of her parents, Dick and Patsy McCarthy Breeden, had passed away prior to her birth on May 12, 1930 in Burke County. She was the daughter of Dick and Patsy McCarthy Breeden. In 1948, Sister graduated from Morganton High School, and four years later, she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. On June 6, 1954, she made her commitment to the man she cherished by getting married.

Mrs. Erwin was a classroom teacher for a good number of years before she had any of her own children. After that, she continued her work in the academic field by taking a position as a substitute teacher. At First United Methodist Church, Sister was a very active member, serving in leadership roles such as president of the Women’s Society and as a teacher in the Sunday school. She was a member of several clubs, one of which was a book club, and another was a bridge club. In addition, she enjoyed traveling to remote and offbeat locations. Sister cherished and delighted in the company of her spouse, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed the company of her great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Erwin will be remembered by her husband, Robert S. Erwin Jr.; her son, John R. Erwin and his wife, Judy; her grandchildren, Caitlyn Erwin, Jennifer Erwin, Cecelia Erwin, Robert David Erwin, and Sara Anne Erwin; her daughter-in-law, Dabney Erwin and her husband, Judge Mark Klass; her great-granddaughters, Chloe Charlie Erwin and Aries Trimble; and her sister-in- Not only did her parents pass away before she did, but both of Sis’s children and her grandson, Charles B. Erwin Jr., also died before she did. Charles B. Erwin was the name she gave to her son.

On Sunday, November 27, at 2:00 p.m., First United Methodist Church will play host to a memorial service in memory of Sis, and the Reverend Dana McKim will serve as the officiant for the occasion. After the conclusion of the service, the family will get together with some friends in the church’s fellowship hall. Donations made in honor of her grandson Chaz may be sent to the A.T.
