Richard Pieper Obituary, Death – Richard Wayne Pieper, a Cold War veteran who served in a submarine, died on November 14, 2022, in Chestertown, Maryland. During the war, Pieper served in the Navy. He had 73 years of experience to draw on. Rich Pieper was born in Waterloo, Illinois on October 28, 1949. Both of his parents, Alois L. and Louise Marie Pieper, died before he was born. Since then, both of his parents have died.

He attended the University of Illinois after graduating from high school, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1970. He later went on to earn a master’s degree in the same field. He rose to the rank of officer in the United States Navy and spent a portion of his career aboard a nuclear reconnaissance submarine. He was given an honorable discharge after serving his country honorably and went on to work as a civilian employee for the Navy.

He began his career in recruiting and eventually rose through the ranks to become the Director of the Concord Naval Weapons Station in Concord, California. He decided to retire after the naval base where he worked was decommissioned in 2008. In 2009, he married the woman who would eventually become his wife; her name is Paula Hubbard. Rich used to spend a lot of time on the water in his kayak. He was an active member of the kayaking community while living in California.

He joined the Bay Area Sea Kayakers and the Chesapeake Paddlers Association, two kayaking organizations. He enjoyed being outside, such as camping, hiking, and kayaking. Despite being a little obstinate at times, he was the most generous man I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He enjoyed assisting others and had a soft spot in his heart for his animals. His wife Paula is the only person he leaves behind, but he is survived by his sisters Mary Thomas, Brenda Miller, and Roger Pieper. Paula, his wife, is the only person he leaves behind.
