The daughter of Ernie and Essie (Brock) Oneth, Patti was born in Rock Island, Illinois, on October 17, 1943. She attended United Township High School in East Moline and received the valedictorian award in 1961. Illinois State University awarded Patti a bachelor’s degree in music education in 1965. She tied the knot on October 5, 1968, with Richard McNaught. He passed away before her on March 4, 2012. She spent more than 30 years applying her education to the classroom, working as a music education teacher at the Hayes-Davenport, Millikin-Geneseo, and Carbon Cliff/Barstow Grade Schools before retiring from the Moline School District in 2007.

She conducted years of piano lessons outside of her house. She spent several years playing the piano for the middle school choirs in Geneseo. She played for Von Maur, weddings, and funerals in addition to accompanying other pupils in solo and ensemble competitions. She possessed a unique gift for singing along to whatever song she heard. Making fleece blankets for neighborhood domestic violence organizations and children’s charities was one of Patti’s favorite volunteer activities. She regularly held garage sales to generate money for the neighborhood domestic violence shelters. She had been a member of the GFWC IL Geneseo Woman’s Club for 50 years and had served in a number of state and local leadership roles.

She had been a part of Grace United Methodist Church, the Hammond Henry Hospital Auxiliary, and Delta Kappa Gamma for 50 years. Patti cherished doing genealogy, going on vacation, and visiting her grandchildren in Colorado. Her daughters Meredith McNaught of East Dubuque and Robin (Mike) Henson of Frederick, CO, her granddaughters Addison and Reese Henson, her sister Cathy Wells of Evans, CO, niece Mollee (Kyle) Reiber, and nephew Jay (Heather) Schumaker are among those left to cherish her memory. Her parents, Ernie and Essie Oneth, as well as her devoted husband, Richard McNaught, predeceased her.
