Mike Essery Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you of the untimely passing of our cherished son, Michael, who passed away in Victoria far too soon at the age of 56 when he still had so much more to contribute to this world. Survived by his heartbroken parents, Linda and Tom, his brother Tom Jr. (Rachel), his nephews Mark and Austin, and his niece Linda Ana, his favorite uncle Alfred, and Rhonda, who was Michael’s partner for many years. Also survived by Rhonda, who was Michael’s partner for many years. Michael will also be greatly missed by his many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom were enamored with his wonderful, contagious charm as well as his brilliant, witty, and warm personality.

Michael’s interest in airplanes and flying began at a very young age. At the age of sixteen, he was able to obtain his private pilot’s license. After beginning his professional life at the age of 13 as a part-time “ramp rat” with Air West in the inner harbor, he advanced with what became Air BC to ground management positions in Victoria, Prince George, Calgary, and Edmonton. His first job was with Air West. Numerous friends and coworkers respected and admired his management skills, as well as his capacity to bring people together, and they found his sense of humor to be extremely endearing.

The high point of Michael’s professional career, and an accomplishment in which he takes a great deal of pride, was when he worked for the British Columbia Emergency Health Services, where his commitment and leadership were widely praised. His last job was as the Director of Aviation Provincial Programs. Our beloved son, we will miss you deeply. May you finally find the peace you deserve. The details of a memorial service honoring the deceased will be shared at a later time. Donations made in Michael’s memory to the SPCA or the Wild Arc Foundation would be greatly appreciated by his family and friends.
