Mick Wolfe Obituary, Death – The sudden passing of Mick Wolfe, who had previously served as a councillor and the mayor of the Moyne Shire, has left the current councillors and staff of the shire in a state of profound sadness. In 2008, Mick was selected as the winner of the election to serve on the council, and in 2018 and 2019, he was selected as the winner of the election to serve as mayor. Following the results of the council election in 2020, he plans to step down from his current position. Mick was a devoted member of the community; he was a founding member of the Port Fairy Marine Rescue Service, served on the Board of Directors for the Port of Port Fairy, and was a former president of the Port Fairy Football Netball Club.
Mick passed away in 2010. Mick was the kind of man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He began his career with the Victoria Police Department and worked his way up through the ranks until he was promoted to the position of Sergeant in Charge of the Port Fairy Police Station. During the time that Mick was a member of the Council, he had a keen awareness of the requirement to provide assistance to communities located throughout the shire, and he was an advocate for each and every project that the Council undertook during that time.
He earned a great deal of respect not only within the chamber but also throughout the rest of the region by serving as Moyne’s representative on the Great South Coast Group and becoming a leading advocate for important regional issues while he was Mayor. This allowed him to garner a lot of respect both inside and outside of the chamber. Mick is remembered fondly by the Moyne Councillors and staff for his leadership, his exceptional working relationship with our teams, and his ardent advocacy for the community that he served. In particular, the Moyne Councillors and staff admire Mick for his exceptional working relationship with our teams. During this trying time, we want Mick’s family to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them.
