On Friday, she was checked in at the institution and given a room. On June 10th, 1927, her departed parents, Joseph Irwin and Bessie Wooten Irwin, brought her into this world. She passed away in 1997. She was the only child that they had.

Her first husband, Buford Billings, and her second husband, Donald Dickens, as well as one brother, Troy Irwin, three sons, Tommy Billings, Mike Billings, and Mark Andrews, and one daughter, Susan Sweeting, all lost dead before she did. Susan Sweeting was the only child to survive to adulthood. Susan Sweeting was the only one of her children to make it through. Both of her husbands, Buford Billings and Donald Dickens, passed away before she did. Her first spouse was Donald Dickens, and Buford Billings was her second. Her parents were both among the ones who had gone on before she did, and they passed away before she did.

Mattie was a faithful member of the New Salem Baptist Church, where she went to the services on a weekly basis as a member of the congregation. She found great satisfaction in tending to her garden, crocheting, and stitching needlework in her spare time. Mattie was a hard worker. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother who had a wealth of love to share with her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.

Debbie Todd, who lives in Sparta, and Julie Andrews, who lives in Yemassee, South Carolina, are her two surviving daughters. Debbie Todd lives in Sparta, while Julie Andrews lives in Yemassee. These two ladies are natives of the state of South Carolina. In addition, she is survived by one niece who lives in Glade Valley and her name is Judy Lyon; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She presided over a sizable family as the matriarch.

Your presence at the memorial ceremony that will be held to celebrate the life of Mattie on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home would be greatly welcomed by the family. The service will be held to mark the anniversary of Mattie’s passing. The memorial service will be held in Mattie’s honor and in her memory when it has been concluded. The service will be presided over by Brother Ed Hall, who will also serve as the officiant.

During the viewing that will take place at the funeral home one hour before to the start of the funeral service, friends and family of the dead will have the opportunity to pay their respects to the individual who has passed away. A solemn ceremony will be done in secret at the place of the grave to pay respects to the deceased. In addition, we would want to send a great deal of gratitude to the Alleghany County Emergency Medical Services, Alleghany Health, and Medi-Home Health for their assistance in this matter. Nancy Hunt and Barbara Church are two of the most incredible people we know.
