Lola Powell Obituary, Death – Lola J. Powell, age 84, passed away at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital on Thursday, November 17, 2022. She was a resident of Galion. On August 6, 1938, Lola was born in Springfield, Illinois. Her parents, the late Thomas Yoakum Sr. and Gladys (Thompson) Yoakum, passed away before her birth. Lola Powell wed Harold Powell on February 9, 1960, and he passed away on January 4, 2011, three years before her own passing. Lola was a devout member of the church and had a passion for sharing her faith with others. She was devoted to both her family and her cat, whom she called “Baby.” Lola enjoyed putting together puzzles and planting flowers in her spare time. She was a regular fixture at family gatherings and looked forward to the brunches she shared with her friends on Sundays after church. Twenty years and more of Lola’s life were spent at the Journey Life Center.
Her children, Ted (Vicky) Thomas of Bucyrus, Charles Powell of Jacksonville, Florida, and Mary Powell of Bucyrus, Ohio, are all that are left to cherish Lola’s memory. Thomas Powell (and his wife Kim) of Galion, John Powell (and his wife April) of Bucyrus, Gina Powell of Galion, Billy Powell (and his wife Tonya) of Galion, and Bob Powell (and his wife Michelle) of Galion; son-in-law Lanny Hill and daughter-in-law Sharon Powell; and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The deaths of Lola’s daughters Betty “Bets” Sue Hill and Judy Eggelston, as well as her son Harold Powell, came before those of her parents and husband. Lola was also predeceased by her husband.
At the Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, which is located at 303 Portland Way North in Galion and will host the funeral ceremony on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 10:00AM, friends and family are welcome to visit with the family on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. After the service, Bishop Ted Thomas will preside, and the interment will take place in Iberia Cemetery.
