James Sharp obituary, Death – James Robert “Jim” Sharp, 88, of Monticello, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 6:05 p.m. at the Monticello Healthcare Center. He was born in Lafayette’s St. Elizabeth Hospital on January 27, 1934, to the late Thomas Robert and Grace L. (Danner) Snow. He married Mary “Joyce” Cooper on June 25, 1961, at the Foresman United Methodist Church; she survives.

Jim spent the majority of his life farming and raising two sons with his wife, Joyce, between rural Reynolds and Monticello. In 1952, he graduated from Reynolds High School. Jim has spent the last 79 years as a member of the Guernsey Church of the Brethren in rural Monticello. He’d served on a number of church committees, was the Youth Advisor for several years, and was a member of the church’s dart-ball team.

Jim served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He’d been farming his entire life. For 14 years, Jim worked as a maintenance man at the Monticello Union Township Library. His wife, Mary “Joyce” Sharp of Monticello, survives, as do his two sons, James Andrew “Andy” Sharp of Indianapolis and Thomas W. “Tom” Sharp of Holliston, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, William P., Perry O., Devine R. (husband Doug) Murphy, and Alexander James Lee Sharp; god-daughter, Leslie Ann (husband Timothy L.) Fowler of Dacula, Georgia; and god-son,

He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Robert and Grace L. (Danner) Sharp, as well as his daughter-in-law, Shana Jade Montgomery Sharp, grandson Robert Clinton Sharp, two sisters, Nina L. Sharp Davis and Ellen R. Sharp Simmons, and brother, Thomas D. Sharp. On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, Rev. Dana Hood officiated at the Visitation and Celebration of Life Services at The Miller-Roscka Funeral Home.

The Monticello Veterans Honor Guard performed full military rites at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in rural Monticello.
