Fred Nyline Obituary, Death – We would like to express our deepest condolences to you on the loss of Fred Nyline, a well-known Professor Emeritus of Music who was held in extremely high esteem throughout the entirety of the music community. It is with great regret that we share this news with you. It is with deep regret that we must let you know that he died away earlier today. Despite the fact that our hearts are heavy at the possibility of having to convey the news of the day with you, it is imperative that we do so.Professor Nyline served as the conductor of the Luther Concert Band, the Luther Varsity Band, and the Luther Wind and Percussion Ensemble between the years 1973 and 2011.

He retired from those positions in 2011. During that period of time, he was a vital force in the development of both the Luther College band program and the music department as a whole. In addition to that, he was a member of both departments. In addition to that, he was a major contributor to the development of the Luther College Wind and Percussion Ensemble. The wide range of traditions that can be found on this campus today are all directly attributable to the fact that he worked for this college for a total of 38 years. The songs “Who Puts Their Trust” and “Stars and Stripes” are two good examples of these kinds of traditions.

Not only did he have a tremendous impact on the lives of tens of thousands of students at Luther and beyond, but he also had a significant impact on the lives of their families. He is remembered with great affection by all. Everyone thinks of him fondly and will always remember him. Through his contagious excitement for music, he was able to create a love of music in his students at Luther and beyond.
