Elise Wars Obituary, Death – Elise Wars of Frederick, Maryland has died. Junius and Marie Bocke Beger’s daughter Elise was born on June 8 in Keokuk, Iowa. Junius and Marie are her parents’ names. She married George G. Wars in 1946, and he died three years before her in 1995. Elise graduated from St. Francis College in Joliet, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975, as well as certifications from Sacred Heart Academy and St. John’s School of Nursing, all of which she completed in 1944. During WWII, she was a member of the Army Nurses Corps, serving in both the Pacific Theater of War and Japan.

She served in the Army from April 1946 to April 1946, when she was honorably discharged. She worked as a nurse in Springfield until 1988, when she met the state retirement age for the McFarland Zone Center, where she had previously worked. She has served as an officer and board member of St. John’s Retirees, Patriotic Chairman of Women’s Overseas League, Sacred Heart Griffin Alumni, and Altar and Rosary Society member of St. Agnes Church. She is also a member of the Sacred Heart Griffin Alumni and the St. Agnes Church Altar and Rosary Society. She received the Catholic War Veterans’ Distinguished Service Reward, which qualified her to join the Bishop McNicholas Catholic War Veterans Post 1916, where she served for six years.

She has thoroughly enjoyed her volunteer work in the field of pastoral care at Memorial Medical Center, as well as projects at St. John’s College and St. John’s with Third Age, since her retirement. She has worked at St. Agnes Church in a variety of positions. Her parents had also died at this point. Her three children survive her: Knoxville, Tennessee’s George G. Wars, and Springfield’s twins Elizabeth M. Fulton and Robert B. Fulton. Richard J. Beger of Springfield; and eight grandchildren, Sarah (husband, Jason) Wars of St. Louis, Theresa of San Diego, California, and Krista of Charleston.
