Duke Sutton Obituary, Death – Sutton The death of Duke, who was 73 and from Hickory, took place on Saturday at the Catawba Regional Hospice. Mr. Sutton was born in Waynesville, North Carolina on November 3, 1939 to the late Bonnie Ludlam, who was the child’s mother. In the Granite Falls location of the New Vision Baptist Fellowship Church, where he was active as a Deacon, he was a member of the church. In addition to that, he had been a member of the board of directors at the Church of the Nazarene in Pennsville, New Jersey. Duke was an outstanding athlete while attending Penns Grove High School in Salem County, New Jersey, and was inducted into the Salem County Sports Hall of Fame.
Following his graduation from Southern Illinois University, he signed a professional minor league baseball contract with the Houston Colts. He is currently playing for the Houston Colts. His wife, Betty Carlson Sutton, of the home, his two sons, Charles W. Sutton, Jr. and wife Dody of Vale, NC and Shaun E. Sutton and wife Marcia of Independence, MO, his grandchildren, Danielle Marie Dantine of Hoboken, NJ, Shaun Zachary Sutton, Bret Charles Sutton, and Chad Ryan Sutton all of Independence, MO, and step grandchildren, Dylan White of Hickory, NC and Lee Lackey of Florida are among.
A service to celebrate the life of the deceased will be held at the Pennsville Church of the Nazarene on Saturday at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Shaun E. Sutton and the Reverend Bruce Ratliff will be the ones to preside over the ceremony. After the funeral service, the family will host a reception for friends. The Give a Helping Glove Foundation, located at 3100 N. Miller Drive, Independence, Missouri 64058, and the Catawba Regional Hospice, located at 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, North Carolina 28658, are both worthy recipients of memorial donations.
