Donald MacLeod Obituary, Death – On August 11, 2022, Donald Terry “Don” MacLeod of Cranberry Township, previously of Hertford, North Carolina, and Garden City, New York, passed away at the age of 92. After more than 35 years of service at Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. in New York City, Don was a retired vice president from the company. He received his diploma from Garden City Senior High School in 1948 and from Syracuse University in 1952. At Syracuse University, he was a member of the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi. He served as a decorated infantry officer in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 in Korea and was given an honorable discharge as a first lieutenant.
Don carried on a long family tradition of military service that dates back to the War of the Revolution, including that of his great-grandfather John Darling Terry, a hero of the Union Army during the Civil War (receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery). Don was as proud of his mother’s family’s early 17th-century New Amsterdam and New England colonial background as he was of his father’s Scottish Highlands ancestry from the 20th century. He was also a devoted Episcopalian who served in a variety of church capacities, including acolyte, choir member (he had a beautiful voice), lay reader, and vestry member.
He eventually received the Bishop’s Cross from the Diocese of Long Island, New York. He had most recently belonged to Pittsburgh’s Calvary Episcopal Church community.
Don played as much golf and bridge as he could while working on Habitat for Humanity construction projects in North Carolina and New York. In the Army, he was a renowned poker player as well. In addition to his wife of more than 50 years, Joan H. MacLeod (Marsh), Don also leaves behind his brother, Douglas Edsall MacLeod, and nephew, Scott Marsh Cory.
He is survived by his three children, Susan L.
