Bill Bates Obituary, Death –  Bill Bates, a well-known member of the greyhound racing fraternity on the South Coast of New South Wales, passed away in November of 2022. He was a resident of the area. Bates was a significant figure in this part of the story. He achieved a great deal of notoriety as a result of his active participation in the sport over a long period of time.
Bates’ headquarters were located at Shellharbour, and the names “Springbill” and “Hayville” were used by his greyhounds when they competed. Bates is most well-known for his affiliation with Shellharbour, as this was the site of the races in which he achieved the greatest level of success.

Bill had his education throughout the course of forty years and at a number of different places, such as Wentworth Park, Dapto, and Nowra, among others. As a direct result of the preparation that he had done beforehand, he was able to accomplish a significant portion of what he had set out to do. Bates served in a position of administrative responsibility on the Committee of the Dapto Greyhound Racing Club, which required him to commit a substantial percentage of his time. As a gesture of appreciation and recognition for the countless hours that he spent working for the organization throughout the course of his career, he was given the honor of life membership in the group as a token of the club’s appreciation and gratitude.

As a way of expressing gratitude for his service, this was done for him. There was never an event that took place at the Dapto showground to which Bill and his family did not participate in some way, shape, or form. This was true for each and every one of those occasions. They were always available to lend a helping hand when it was needed. Bill will be remembered for his friendliness and kindness toward everyone, and he was always ready to provide a helping hand to whoever was in need of some assistance. This is something that will live on in people’s memories of him. People’s recollections of him will forever be tinged with this aspect of his life.

People’s memories of this will remain fresh in their minds for a very long time to come. We would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of everyone here at the GRNSW, to extend our most heartfelt condolences to Bill Bates’ family and friends on the sad occasion of the passing of a member of their family or a close friend.
