Officers went to the residence of Eugene Martinez, who they believed to be the person responsible for the shooting, and attempted to make contact with him, as stated by Lieutenant Steve Shebloski of the San Diego Police Department. When a SWAT team arrived at the house around midday, Martinez was not there. Martinez was not present.
Officers found the suspect in a parking lot in the 5000 block of Balboa Avenue in Clairemont Mesa, and they arrested him along with a 51-year-old female companion whose name has not been made public. Both were taken into custody.
Martinez was taken into custody for the murder charge and booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
Shebloski made this statement in the afternoon on Wednesday. “Detectives are investigating the female detainee’s role in this incident,” he said.
According to the lieutenant, Haro and Martinez were having an argument in the neighborhood just east of Interstate 805 and south of state Route 94 when Martinez “armed himself with a handgun and shot the victim.” The argument was about the noise level in the neighborhood.
