Ann Shackleton Obituary, Death -After learning that Ann had passed away the day before I found out about her passing, I was left with a sad and heavy heart. I found out about her passing the next day. Everyone who knew her has told me the exact same thing: that they learned a great deal from Ann, and that she was a kind, compassionate, and warm-hearted person who always put the needs of others before her own.
In other words, everyone who knew her has told me that she was an excellent teacher. All of the people who were familiar with her have shared this knowledge with me. I had the honor of working with her as a community worker, as a fellow member of the Labour Party, and as a candidate for election. Working with her was a wonderful experience. In each of these roles, she served as a source of motivation for me.
During that time, I was able to witness how she respected the dignity of others and fought with an unusual degree of ferocity on behalf of those individuals. I took this picture of Ann in the year 2019, while she was participating in the Women Chainmaker’s festival. She put in a lot of work to make sure that this event went off without a hitch, and the sculpture that was built in Mary MacArthur Gardens in her honor as a fitting tribute to all of her hard work is there as a reminder of how successful it was.
Ann is the kind of person who someone as fiery and passionate as Mary would recognize as a kindred spirit because Ann possesses the same qualities. I solemnly swear that from this day forward, whenever I come across that statue, the two of them will be the first things that come into my mind.
